The Distillery

If you're ever wandering through Derby and stumble across 3 Friar Gate, there's a good chance you’ll be drawn in by the charm and charisma of The Distillery. This place isn’t just a restaurant or a bar-it’s an experience that blends rich atmosphere, inventive drinks, and vibrant live performances into one unforgettable destination. It’s the kind of spot that doesn’t just serve, it performs.

Step through the wheelchair-accessible entrance and you’ll be greeted by warm, rustic interiors with a modern twist. Exposed brick, industrial lighting, and deep, plush seating instantly set the mood for something beyond your typical dining affair. Whether you’re there for a laid-back drink or a lively night out, The Distillery knows how to strike the right chord.

Let’s talk drinks, because The Distillery knows its craft. Their gin and tonic game is strong-unsurprising, given the name-and you can taste the precision in every pour. From classic margaritas with the perfect salt rim to raspberry cocktails that balance fruit and fizz just right, this place isn’t afraid to experiment with bold flavors. And if you’re in the mood for something sparkling, the Prosecco flows freely and with flair.

Now, beer lovers-this one’s for you. The beer selection is not only vast but impressively curated, with options that cater to both hop-heads and casual drinkers. It's not just about the names on the tap; it's about the variety, the quality, and how well they pair with the dishes on offer. And yes, there's also wine-lots of it. Reds, whites, and everything in between, perfect for sipping slowly while the live band plays on stage.

Speaking of food, The Distillery keeps things flavorful and satisfying. Their Cajun Chicken Burger is a standout-it hits that sweet spot between spice and savory, stacked high and served with golden fries. For those leaning toward comfort with a touch of elegance, the lamb dishes often make an appearance, seasoned with care and cooked just right. And when it’s time to indulge, the chocolate brownie deserves your full attention: warm, gooey, and dangerously good with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

The energy at The Distillery ramps up in the evenings when live performances take the spotlight. From local acoustic sets to full-blown jazz nights or themed events, the entertainment feels woven into the identity of the venue. It's not just background noise-it's a central part of the atmosphere. And yes, dancing is absolutely encouraged. The moment the music hits the right beat, the floor fills up, and the place comes alive.

There’s outdoor seating, too-ideal for those long summer evenings when you want to enjoy your iced tea or Sangria under open skies, soaking in the buzz of Friar Gate with a side of people-watching.

With no takeaway or delivery, The Distillery invites you to stay. It’s not built for quick stops-it’s built for experiences. And that’s part of the charm. It’s a space where conversations flow as easily as the cocktails, and where every night promises a new memory waiting to be made.

Whether you're a cocktail connoisseur, a live music enthusiast, or someone who simply appreciates a good meal with good vibes, The Distillery delivers. It's got the kind of magnetic pull that keeps you coming back, not just for what’s on the menu, but for the way it makes you feel while you're there.

We had our wedding celebration in the upstairs room and were really happy with everything. The staff was wonderful and helped us with every question, request and concern during the planning and the duration of the evening. Really accommodating and creative. The room itself is beautiful and the provided decoration made it even more stunning. We had a custom vegan buffet, which was absolutely delicious and everyone loved it. We would love to come back sometime!

Very tasty cocktails and great music choice. Lovely building and a nice atmosphere. Good value. Only giving 3 stars as I nearly didn’t get let in by the bouncers (never had this problem before)

Popped in around 1-2 on Friday so place to myself but still perfect service and friendly staff. Quizzed about weekends during summer, was very promising and look forward to visiting again with friends.
